The Uglies Trilogy

The Uglies Trilogy- Scott Westerfeld

I have to say i am not a HUGE fan of trilogies because i think once you have read one book about a person that is enough. When my dad got me these books i was like "ugh dad...this is dumb" but of course, i ended up reading it. As always, i loved it.

Uglies-This book is very different, that's all i have to say. When i read the first chapter my head was hurting and i did not understand a WORD. I was so freaked out that i read the chapter again and i understood where the author was going with this story, i was stunned. How could something like that come to a humans minds? Its awesome. There are kids called 'uglies' that stay 'ugly' until they are sixteen and they end up getting a huge plastic surgery that make them...'pretty' and 'perfect'. In every book something stands in the way of something that the character wants, Tally wants to be pretty. There are always her usual teenager problems but she gets surprised by her best friend, Shay. Facing an adventure and betraying a friend is not that easy and that is what this book is about.

The second book in the trilogy is about when Tally finally becomes pretty, if you haven't read the first book you wouldn't know what the heck goes on in this book. Tally faces a challenge and she has to heal from her 'pretty' ways. As always, something stands in her way or something huge changes. Zane, who is her new love interest in the story, is like Tally and he knows the secrets of being pretty. He wants to face it with her and together they try to same the world.
This book was kind of tiring and too gross for me, i really didn't like this. It REALLY scared me because they talked of blood and cutting, it made my put down the book really fast. Confession: i only read to page 150. This is the 3th time i ever stopped reading a book in the middle of it, i was actually falling asleep while reading it. They talked about how Tally turned into a Special [something similar to the FBI, you get a special surgery for it to be strong and tough] i didnt really understand why they cut their wrists at all, but it made me gag a couple of times. I cant say i recomed this book, unless you really want to read it.

I am the Messenger- Markus Zusak

I am the Messenger- Markus Zusak
This is probably one of my favorites, the book is so...different. Surprisingly there is a slight similarity between this one and The Book Thief. Its amazing. The beginning actually made me laugh out loud which is something that usually does not happen in books for me. I was talking to my English teacher about this book, she didn't read it yet she just wanted to borrow it from me. In class we had to each bring a book to talk about it in our 'Book Cafe'. Of course i brought this book, one question that we had to answer was what was the theme of your book. For me i knew it RIGHT away, its really easy to figure out. The theme is: a nothing always has a something to show. As in, you are a worthless cab driver and your mom thinks you're an idiot. I wasn't sure if that is a moral or a theme so i came up to my teacher and asked, she gave me a surprising answer which made me realize something. In this book this boy/man named Ed Kennedy doesn't really know where he is in life, he didn't go to college, doesn't know anything, and his mom makes fun of him. Suddenly he stops a bank robbery and starts getting these playing cards that have names or clues on them that lead him to people who need help. And not just 'give me money' help. In The Book Thief there are regular people making a big difference for someone. That's the answer i got from my teacher, so i guess my theme was right for this book. I totally recommend this book to someone who likes some mystery and excitement. This is truly spectacular loves =]

Shug- Jenny Han

Shug- Jenny Han
My favorite 'real' story of a girl and her life as a growing teen. Her messed up love life, hurt friendships, and always come the family problems. The title and the cover were my favorite things about this book, they just stick to your mind and stay there. Also the song Technicolor Eyes by Backseat Goodbye reminds me of this book. Shug is what the mother calls the girl, i always wish i was called that. Its about a girl whose life is very difficult because of her mothers drunkenness activities and her parents divorce. Also when she comes into 7th grade she realizes she is in love with her best friend, she has no idea if he likes her back. At the end i might of even shedded a tear because i cry a lot in books because i am a total wimp with that kind of emotion =]. I also loved the authors way of expressing the girls feelings about life and point of views, its totally a book you cannot put down.

The Book Theif

This is my first post. In these posts i will state MY opinions about the books.

Since i want to be a journalist when i grow up i decided...what the heck, practice makes perfect [fathers idea]. My first book that i am going to talk about is:

The Book Thief- By Markus Zusak
This was my first book that i read by Markus Zusak and this book is much more different then the other ones that he wrote. This book really stood out from the past books because it was narrated by a character called, Death. Its not a name its a statement. I do not know what the author thought when he narrated the book my death but i think its amazing that someone has that kind of imagination and knowledge to do so. From my point of view i saw that this book was informing people of the evil that was done during the Holocaust. Also about how totally ordinary people did little things that just made one person have a smile on there face during his or her suffering life. For example in this book the father of a little girl gave a marching Jew a piece of bread. That marching Jew has gone through noting but suffering and hate and one day an ordinary man gives him a piece of bread. The story in this book was set during World War II. But i have never read a book that was about Germans, only Jews suffering. In this book it is set around an orphan girl who is brought to a poor German family. To get out of her misery she steals books from a wealthy German family and it turns out she enjoys them very much. My favorite part of this part about this book is the strong language that the author used, i could seriously picture almost every moment of the book and i could feel what he characters were feeling. Anyone who is into little things turning into big things would like this book =]
