I am the Messenger- Markus Zusak
This is probably one of my favorites, the book is so...different. Surprisingly there is a slight similarity between this one and The Book Thief. Its amazing. The beginning actually made me laugh out loud which is something that usually does not happen in books for me. I was talking to my English teacher about this book, she didn't read it yet she just wanted to borrow it from me. In class we had to each bring a book to talk about it in our 'Book Cafe'. Of course i brought this book, one question that we had to answer was what was the theme of your book. For me i knew it RIGHT away, its really easy to figure out. The theme is: a nothing always has a something to show. As in, you are a worthless cab driver and your mom thinks you're an idiot. I wasn't sure if that is a moral or a theme so i came up to my teacher and asked, she gave me a surprising answer which made me realize something. In this book this boy/man named Ed Kennedy doesn't really know where he is in life, he didn't go to college, doesn't know anything, and his mom makes fun of him. Suddenly he stops a bank robbery and starts getting these playing cards that have names or clues on them that lead him to people who need help. And not just 'give me money' help. In The Book Thief there are regular people making a big difference for someone. That's the answer i got from my teacher, so i guess my theme was right for this book. I totally recommend this book to someone who likes some mystery and excitement. This is truly spectacular loves =]
